Abstract
The data gathered was through one on one interviews with Ka'a'gee Tu First Nation members in Kakisa, NT. The members that were interviewed were specifically harvesters in the community. Harvesters are the people who go out on the land and access traditional foods, like moose and fish. Climate change is making is more risky to travel in Northern Canada. The qualitative information gathered will provide insight to harvester safety and risk due to climate change, their current adaptation strategies and ways to improve their safety with other types of adaptations. The data will be created into spatial information and added to the community's digital map, The Atlas. The information gathered will help identify safe stopping areas in case of emergency for harvesters as well as visitors around Kakisa Lake.
Purpose
The aim of this research was to create locally driven adaptation plans that will eventually turn into practice for the benefit of safer travel and well-being of harvesters when out on the land. Climate change is changing the way people go out on the land and practice a subsistence lifestyle, thus affecting the community's overall health. The project identified safe stopping spots around Kakisa Lake as an adaptation protocol for community members and visitors.
