In the area with snow (above 2000 m a.s.l.), the two main land covers are:
i) bare soil and rocks, and
ii) small shrubs (enebral-piornal).
Alpujarride complex: volcanic rocks intercalated between the carbonates that appear as amphibolites

Snow appears from November to May above 2000 m a.s.l. Snowpack is shallow, with several accumulations/ablations within the year. Evaposublamation rates are high, reaching up to 30% of the total ablation in some years and locations.
