bul EOS Article on the IP3 Users' Community Workshop in Canmore, AB, March 2008 (23 July 2008)

bul Cherie Westbrook and Chris Spence, IP3 scientists and graduate advisor to IP3 M.Sc. Student May Guan, are pleased to announce that May has been awarded the Garfield Weston Award for Northern Studies from ACUNS, the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies. There are only seven of these prestigious scholarships awarded nationally each year. Great job, May!!! (22 May 2008)

Nicholas Kinar successfully defended his M.Sc. Thesis on "Acoustic Sounding of Snow Water Equivalent" in the Department of Geography, University of Saskatchewan. The research for this thesis was partly supported by IP3. (7 September 2007)

IP3 is pleased to announce the appointments of two new colleagues: Edgar Herrera has joined IP3 as the network's GEM Modeller, and Tom Brown is IP3's CRHM Modeller! Edgar joins IP3 from INRS in Québec where he earned his Ph.D. in 2007 in "Développement d’une méthodologie hydrologique/statistique pour estimer les débits d’étiage au Québec habité." Edgar will be running the GEM model (Environment Canada's Global Environmental Multiscale Model) in IP3 research basins to assess the model's current parameterisations and to assess the effect of improved parameterisations on weather and water prediction in GEM. Tom is developing the Cold Regions Hydrological Model for the IP3 Network by improving model functionality as well as adding basin modules based on IP3 research on cold regions processes and parameterisations.
